Poker

Change of plans, I'm not going to tell you why my blog is green. Instead, we're going to talk poker. Now, my favorite game is Texas Hold Em. It's simple; bet on the cards flush of the two that you have in your hand. In other words, say you have a three of diamonds and a queen of clubs (I just randomly drew those out of my deck, so i have no idea how this will turn out.) In a standard Poker game, the game usually starts with two players to the left of the Dealer. It isn't betting if there isn't any money in the pot, so each player puts in a predetermined amount of money (or chips, if you are either not betting or cashing in later. Legit Casinos use chips to cash in) into the pot before recieving their cards. This is also referred to as 'Posting the Blinds'. The player immediately left of the dealer is 'half-blind', meaning that the next person would have to double their bet. Usually, this person puts in half of the minimum bet so the next person has to put in full. After bets are placed, the dealer gives each player two cards, face-down for only the player to see. Now the players bet again blindly. After this, the dealer 'burns', or discards the top card of the deck in case anyone saw it accidentally. Now, the dealer places three cards, face up on the table. (for proper poker terminology, these cards are called the 'flop') Guess what happens then? yep, you bet again, starting with the person left of the dealer. Say the flop was a king of spades, a king of hearts, and a five of diamonds. You can pick any of the cards on the table to 'add' to your hand. You are either betting on suit, with the three of diamonds in your hand and the five of diamonds on the table, or you are betting on Straight. Straight is when you have the two cards in your hand in consecutive order with three cards on the table. In a Straight, the suit of the cards doesn't matter. The next person can either call, raise, or fold. Calling means to match the previous person's bet. Raising is matching the bet and adding more. Folding is to stop playing and turning in your cards. The dealer burns another card before flipping the next card face up with the other three. This is called the 'turn' or 'fourth street'. Betting again, the dealer burns another card and places one more on the table, called the 'river' or 'fifth street'. After the last round of betting, the players still in the game reveal their cards. The player with the best hand wins.

Me and My SuperFantastico Ribbons

They are so special to me that i even named my blog after one of them. Currently, i have exactly 43, each a little longer than a foot. Now, I'm sure you're all asking why i have so many ribbons. Well, I bite my nails profusely, and so having a ribbon to twirl in my fingers helps. My ribbons always match my outfit because none of them are the same. I don't have any particular order that I use them, with the exception that i carry the same ribbon every Wednesday. Just on the 17th, Bones (a friend) asked why I had a ribbon and I said, 'Because it's Wednesday,' and he didn't get it, but it's easier to answer that question on Wednesdays than any other day. Just in case you want to know, today i am carrying a strawberry red velvet ribbon that was in fact my first ribbon. Now you're all wondering how I got the idea to carry around ribbons to break my habit. Well, I used to know a girl who when she was a baby liked tags because they were soft. Then she discovered ribbons and had like, six shoeboxes full of them. (my collection is nothing next to hers.) So I used her idea and IT TOTALLY WORKED! (so far, knock on wood) So, that's why my blog is called Red Checkered Ribbons. (Tomorrow, I'll explain why it's green)

Reconciling

when you take all of those recipts that you've been saving and tally them up for the mind-blowing total of money that you have put on your credit card since last month. Now, take that number, and you're staring at either the amount of money that is NO LONGER in your bank account, or the amount of money that you owe someone. Altogether a very unpleasant thing to do. What's the big deal about money anyways? Okay, so you work all week to get those pretty green papers, then add them to your big pink piggy bank (don't try to lie; we all know that you have one) that's staring tauntingly at you from the top of your dresser. After a few more weeks of working and stuffing things into Porky, you have enough money to buy that new version of Tetris (c'mon, you know you want it) So you get on your computer and go to that handy site that everyone knows, Ebay. There it is, that New Tetris game, all shrink-wrapped and everything, looking sexy in its box with the graphics on it.... but HOLY *insert expletive here* it is WAY overpriced! that Ebay user likes money, and you know what? you like Tetris, so you click that pretty Buy button calling your name and enter your credit card number while writing down the price on a scrap of paper. but guess what? a month later, time to reconcile again and OH DARN, you lost that little scrap and so your reconciling isn't accurate anyways! so guess what you do? you hire an accountant, and hand over the rest of your green papers so he can keep track of your green papers that build up on your credit card. so, here we are, back at the start, reconciling.

George

My cat. He is a big grey tiger cat and he is the oldest of three cats that i own. We took in George when we lived in Tenessee. He came around winter time and we discovered him sleeping in my other cat's outside box. We didnt take him in right away because he was a decent weight and looked pretty healthy. Now, George is a smart cat, so when he knew we were aware of him, he slowly started to get thinner until we finally decided to do it. By now I'm sure you're all wondering, "why the name George?" Well, we didnt actually name him. Kids in the neighborhood thought he was a cat that my neighbor owned, named George. My dad, who was in Iraq at the time, wanted to name him Conan (awful, i know) but George just stuck.
Recently, we got two new cats at the shelter because George needed a friend. Toby, a one-year-old black cat and Caylee, a grey tiger kitten, were new additions to the family. George loves Caylee and the two play very often. George and Toby, on the other hand, don'd get along so well. they fight, ambush, and chase each other. i think its hilarious, but i feel bad for my buddy. i wouldnt like it if someone just stuffed another person into my house...

my best friend Kire is amazing

And so she is. I am only two days away from summer break (because the west coast gets out way later than anywhere else I have lived.) and I am flying back to see her and all of my other psycho friends in Pittsburgh STEELER COUNTY! (I live in seattle now, so everyone here is a Seahawks and therefore still pissed about the 2005 superbowl) But anyways, this is my first summer in six years that I am NOT traveling all summer long to visit relatives and I knew that it would be so much fun. for the first two weeks, then I would get soo bored with nothing to do, so she convinced me to make a bl0g.
